I kinda thought of it, does it have a cap in the button, so upon closing the circuit it actually gives more than what it had before and the chime box’s relay closes the high power end this way?

diodes do have directionality. They are the same as a one way road, except for current. Wired wrong will cause damage to the circuit. I’m actually wondering what purpose the diode has in the overall circuit. Since it is wired between the two ends it is a closed circuit, all the time, pressing the button just creates a secondry smaller circuit parallel to this primary, but if it is like any button, all it does is close the 2nd circuit, no drop in voltage would be noted. How then does it ring?

“basically an electrician” that part made me laugh, as expert village is full of these so called basically professionals.

Thank you for making clear (by not focusing on it) that the diode does not have any directionality. After watching this, I checked my wiring at the doorbell itself and found I had the wires switched… now it works!

Best,

You are not Journeyman Electrician…you’re a Wireman. A Wireman is someone who could not pass all the exams to become a Journeyman Electrician.

If there is ANY risk of your wires falling off by putting the door bell back on the wall, then you are doing it wrong and should not be an electrician.
